A plain closed abaya lifted by a woven braid trim — a geometric band in gold and olive running down the V-neck placket and repeated around both cuffs. It's the only decoration on the garment, and it's placed exactly where it's seen.

That restraint is the point. A single well-placed trim reads as considered in a way an all-over pattern doesn't, and it means the abaya works for everyday wear as easily as for a gathering.

Sizes S to 5XL

A genuinely wide range, in all three colours. Most abayas stop at XXL, so if you've struggled to find modest wear above that, this is the piece worth looking at.

The cut helps here too — it falls loose and A-line from the shoulders with no waist seam to sit in the wrong place, which makes it forgiving across a range of builds.

Three colours

Black gives the gold braid maximum contrast and is the most formal of the three.

Navy is the softer alternative — less severe in daylight, and easier alongside greys, creams and denim.

Olive green is the one with character. Deep and muted enough to stay wearable day to day, and the colour the gold trim sits most naturally against.

The fabric and fit

Lightweight polyester chosen for drape. It flows rather than holding a shape, which is what gives a long abaya its line, and it recovers from creasing far better than natural fibres — useful on a garment this length, where sitting is what creases it.

The sleeves are cut full and gathered into a trimmed cuff, so there's room through the arm without excess fabric at the wrist. It's a light fabric, comfortable in warm weather and in heated rooms; in a British winter you'll want a layer underneath.

Sizing

Available in S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, in all three colours.

These are cut on Asian sizing, which runs one to two sizes smaller than UK equivalents — most UK customers should order at least one size up from their usual. That matters particularly at the larger end of the range: a 3XL here is not equivalent to a UK 3XL.

Care

The braid trim is the part to look after — it's woven onto the fabric and abrasion is what frays it.

Machine wash cool on a gentle cycle, inside out, which keeps the trim from rubbing against the drum. Hang to dry rather than tumble drying; heat can shrink a woven trim at a different rate to the fabric it sits on, which puckers the placket. Iron on a cool setting and go around the braid rather than over it. Don't bleach.
