Which style of abaya?

Closed abayas pull over the head in one piece. They're the most traditional cut, the most fully covering, and the simplest to wear — nothing to fasten, nothing to adjust. Best if you want to put one thing on and be done.

Cardigan and robe styles fasten at the front, or not at all, and are worn over an outfit rather than instead of one. This is the more versatile choice: you control how much of what's underneath shows, so the same piece works over jeans on a weekday and over a dress for an evening.

Kimono abayas take the wide, straight sleeve and open front of a kimono. They're lighter and less structured than a classic abaya, which makes them good for warmer days and for layering. The silhouette reads as more contemporary.

Two-piece sets separate the outer layer from the inner dress. You get more ways to wear each part — the dress alone indoors, the robe over something else entirely — which is why they often work out better value than a single garment.

Kaftan styles are wider through the body with dramatic sleeves. Occasion wear rather than everyday, and the most forgiving cut we stock.

Everyday or occasion?

For daily wear — the school run, work, shopping — look at the plain and cardigan styles. Simple fabrics, no embellishment, comfortable to sit and move in, and easy to launder.

For Eid, weddings and gatherings, the embroidered, pleated and lace-detailed pieces are cut for it. Pleating adds movement without weight; embroidery and hot-drill detail catch light without needing anything else alongside. These are the ones to size carefully, since a fitted occasion piece is less forgiving than a relaxed everyday one.

Sizing

Sizing across abayas is genuinely inconsistent — some are cut to standard sizes (S to 5XL depending on the piece), others come as one size, which in practice means generously cut and suitable for a range of builds. We've noted which applies on each product page.

Bear in mind these are largely cut on Asian sizing, which runs smaller than UK and US equivalents. If you're between sizes, or if a product only offers one size and you're unsure, email support@worldoftrendz.com with your usual size and your height, and we'll tell you whether it will work before you order.

Length matters as much as width with an abaya. If you're taller than about 5'8", check the length on the product page rather than assuming.

Fabrics

Most pieces here are in flowing crepe, milk silk, chiffon and similar fabrics chosen for drape rather than structure — they fall cleanly rather than holding a shape, which is what gives an abaya its line. Lighter fabrics suit warm weather and layer well; heavier ones hold their shape better for occasion wear and travel with fewer creases.
