Leather and leather-look jackets and coats for women, from £147 to £275. Materials vary — some genuine hide, most PU — and every product page states plainly which is which. We don't call synthetic material leather.

Choosing by shape

Slim-fit biker is the classic: close through the body and shoulders, cropped at the waist, asymmetric zip and visible hardware. It's the shape that's been in and out of fashion since the 1950s and never quite leaves. Best with high-waisted jeans or skirts, where the short length sits at the natural waist.

Oversized is cut deliberately loose, with the shoulder seam dropped well down the arm. It goes over a hoodie without bunching, and the volume up top balances a slimmer trouser. If you've always found biker jackets too tight across the shoulders, this is the opposite solution.

Hooded and mid-length coats are the practical winter options here. A longer body covers the gap a short jacket leaves, and a hood makes a real difference in British weather — most leather-look outerwear doesn't have one. These are the pieces to look at if you want warmth rather than just the look.

On materials

PU makes up most of this collection, and we'd rather say so than dress it up. It's lighter than hide, needs no conditioning, doesn't stiffen in the cold, wipes clean, and costs considerably less.

What it won't do is age. Genuine leather softens, creases where you bend and develops a patina over years. PU looks much the same in year three as year one. Whether that's a drawback depends entirely on what you want from the jacket — for something you'll wear hard and replace, it's arguably an advantage.

Where a piece is genuine hide, the product page says so and names the animal. Where it's synthetic, the title says PU or faux.

Sizing — read before ordering

These are cut on Asian sizing, which runs roughly one to two sizes smaller than UK equivalents. Most UK customers should order at least one size up from their usual.

Two exceptions: oversized styles are meant to be roomy, so take your normal size unless you want extra length. And for winter coats, leave room for a jumper underneath.

Neither leather nor PU stretches meaningfully, so anything tight on arrival stays tight. Where we have the manufacturer's measurements we publish the full table on the product page; where the chart only exists as an image, or where the figures we were given don't match the sizes we actually stock, we say so rather than publish numbers we can't stand behind.

Care

The two materials need opposite treatment, and getting it wrong causes damage.

Never use leather conditioner, wax or polish on PU — the oils break down the surface coating over time and it can't be repaired once that starts. Wipe it with a damp cloth and mild soap, air dry away from heat, and hang rather than fold, since creases in PU can become permanent.

Genuine hide wants the opposite: a conditioner once or twice a year to stay supple, and natural drying well away from radiators.
