Product Description

The most formal piece in our abaya range, and the one cut closest to the body. Gold and pearl floral embroidery sweeps across one shoulder and down both sleeves, worked into the fabric rather than applied as trim.

Be clear about the silhouette: this is a fitted column dress, not a loose abaya. It skims the waist and hips and falls straight to the floor. If you want something flowing and forgiving, look at our kaftan or cardigan styles instead — this one is designed to follow the shape.

The embroidery

Cream and gold floral work with small pearl beading through it, placed asymmetrically — heavier across one shoulder, lighter as it runs down the sleeve. That asymmetry is what stops it looking like a printed pattern and gives the piece its Gulf-influenced character.

On black and navy it reads as gold against dark. On white it's tonal and considerably more subtle.

Trumpet sleeves and tie belt

The sleeves flare from the elbow into a wide trumpet cuff, with the embroidery following the flare. It's the detail that adds movement to an otherwise slim silhouette.

A self-tie belt fastens at the waist with long ties that hang down the front. Drawn in, it emphasises the waist; left loose, the line softens slightly. Either way the dress remains close-fitting.

With or without a headscarf

Each colour comes in two versions at the same price: with a headscarf, or without.

The scarf is a soft blush-nude rather than an exact colour match — it's chosen to complement all three dress colours rather than to disappear into one. Against black or purple it gives a warm contrast at the neckline; with the white it reads as a tonal pairing.

If you already own scarves you like wearing, take the version without and save the outlay.

Three colours

Black is the formal choice and gives the gold embroidery maximum contrast.

White is for daytime events, Eid mornings and summer. It's also the least forgiving — worth thinking about if you'll be around children or food.

Purple is a deep aubergine and the most distinctive of the three. Rare enough in modest wear that it won't blend into a room.

Sizing — this one runs close

Available in M, L, XL, XXL and 3XL. There is no S.

Because this is a fitted cut rather than a loose one, sizing matters far more here than on the rest of our abayas. These are Asian sizes and run one to two sizes smaller than UK equivalents, and a close silhouette compounds that — we would strongly suggest going up at least one size, and two if you prefer any ease through the waist and hip.

Care

Embroidery and pearl beading need more care than plain fabric. Hand wash cool, or machine wash on a delicates cycle inside a mesh bag — the bag stops beads catching on the drum. Never wring it. Hang to dry away from direct heat. Iron on low from the reverse only, never over the embroidery. Don't bleach or tumble dry. White should be washed alone.
