An open-front abaya with crystal chevron banding and sheer mesh panels through the skirt and sleeves. It's the most dramatic piece in our range and the one that reads most clearly as evening wear.

Read this before choosing your option

There are two versions at the same price, and the difference matters:

• Black strap — includes a matching inner slip dress, worn underneath the abaya
• Black — the abaya on its own

Because the skirt has sheer panels, the inner slip is what provides coverage through those sections. If you don't already own a black full-length slip, choose the "Black strap" option. Buying the abaya alone and discovering the sheer panels afterwards is the mistake to avoid here.

The sheer panels

Horizontal bands of sheer mesh run through the lower skirt, alternating with the crystal chevron work, and there are sheer sections in the sleeves as well.

Worn over the slip, the effect is layered and deliberate — the mesh sits over solid fabric, so you get the visual lightness without transparency. Worn alone, those panels are genuinely see-through. We'd rather tell you that plainly than have it be a surprise.

Crystal chevron work

Bands of small gold and crystal studs in a zigzag pattern run around the skirt and across the sleeve cuffs. Set close together, they catch light as a continuous line rather than as scattered points, which is what gives the abaya its shimmer as it moves.

It's applied work rather than embroidery — heat-set stones on the surface — so it needs protecting in the wash, but it also stays crisp in a way thread embroidery doesn't.

The cut

Open front, worn over what you have on, with a draped collar that continues into a head covering. Wide sleeves cut full from the body give the sweep that makes the crystal banding move.

A matching tie belt comes with both versions. Tied, the waist is defined and the skirt falls away from it; left loose, the piece hangs straight and reads more relaxed.

Sizing — one size

This comes in one size, cut generously.

That works better here than it would on a fitted abaya: an open front has nothing to fasten, the wide sleeves have no shoulder seam to sit in the wrong place, and the belt lets you adjust the waist. Where one size can't help is length.

Care

The crystal studs and the mesh both need gentle handling, and heat is what damages them.

Hand wash cool, or machine wash on a delicates cycle inside a mesh bag. Never wring it. Hang to dry away from radiators and direct heat — heat loosens the adhesive holding heat-set stones, and once they start coming off they don't go back. Iron on low from the reverse only, avoiding the studded bands and the sheer panels entirely. Don't bleach or tumble dry. Wash the slip with the abaya so they wear evenly.
