Horsehide is the connoisseur's leather jacket material, and it's rare enough on the high street that most people have never worn one.
The reason it's prized: horsehide has a denser fibre structure than cowhide. It starts noticeably firmer — genuinely stiff for the first month — and then breaks in to something closer to armour that fits you. It also creases differently. Where cowhide softens evenly, horsehide develops sharp, defined folds at the elbows and waist that lighten with wear. That distinctive creasing pattern is exactly why Japanese repro brands have built a following around this leather, and why a well-worn horsehide jacket looks better at ten years old than it did new.
What you're buying into
Be clear-eyed about the trade-off. This is not a jacket that feels good in week one. It is heavy, it resists you, and it takes real wearing-in. What you get in return is a jacket that outlasts almost anything else in the wardrobe and gets more characterful the harder you use it.
If you want something soft and comfortable from day one, lambskin is the better choice. If you want something you'll still be wearing in twenty years, this is it.
The details
Plain black, biker cut, in a clean Japanese-influenced style — restrained rather than heavily hardwared. Lined in acetate, which is smooth and slips easily over a jumper without dragging.
Natural variation
Horsehide varies more than most leathers. Grain, tone and surface marking differ across panels and between jackets. That's inherent to the material, not a fault, and it means yours won't be identical to the photographs.
Sizing
Available in S, M, L, XL and 2XL.
These are cut on Asian sizing, which runs roughly one to two sizes smaller than UK sizing — most UK customers should order at least one size up. Horsehide has effectively no stretch, considerably less than cowhide, so anything tight on arrival stays tight permanently. When in doubt, take the larger size.
At this price we'd strongly rather advise you first. Email support@worldoftrendz.com with your chest measurement and usual UK jacket size before ordering.
Care
Horsehide needs less intervention than people expect — much of its character comes from being worn, not maintained. Wipe with a barely damp cloth and let it dry naturally, well away from radiators. Condition it sparingly, once a year at most; over-conditioning softens the fibre and flattens the creasing that makes the leather distinctive. Hang it on a broad wooden hanger. Never machine wash or tumble dry it.
