What PU leather actually is

Polyurethane leather is a fabric backing coated with a flexible polymer and finished with a grain. Practically that means three things: it is a good deal lighter than cowhide, it never needs conditioning, and it is entirely animal-free. What it won't do is darken and soften with age the way real leather does — it stays as it arrives.

The finish here is distressed rather than flat. The surface is worked so the colour breaks lighter along the seams and panel edges, which is the detail that stops a faux leather jacket reading as plastic.

The detailing

A stand collar rather than a fold-down lapel, which keeps the neckline clean and sits up against the wind. Zip chest pockets and an asymmetric zip front carry the biker language without heavy hardware — closed, the offset zip runs diagonally across the chest; open, the front folds back flat.

Two colours

Black is the version that disappears into anything — jeans, chinos, a hooded top underneath.

Dark red is the one that gets noticed. Deep and closer to oxblood than to bright red, so it reads as considered rather than loud, and it works particularly well against grey and black.

Sizing

Available in S, M, L, XL, XXL and 3XL. These are cut on Asian sizing, which runs one to two sizes smaller than UK and US equivalents — most customers should order at least one size up from their usual, and two if you want room for knitwear underneath.

Care

Easier than real leather, but not a washing-machine garment. Wipe marks off with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then dry with a clean dry cloth. Air dry away from direct heat — a radiator will stiffen and eventually crack the polyurethane coating. Don't machine wash, tumble dry, dry clean or bleach, and don't iron the shell.
